St.Cocas Athlete is Leinster Schools X-Country Champion

St.Cocas Kilcock athlete Orla Reidy has captured the Leinster Schools Intermediate Cross Country title with victory at Santry today, February 21st.

The Intermediate race was ran over a distance of 3500 metres.

Orla’s win is all the more special as she is also eligible for the Intermediate ranks again next year. She will now also progress to the All-Irelands.

Both Orla and her St.Cocas team mate Aoife O’Cuill, who ran a great race to qualify for the All Ireland finals next month, were representing Maynooth Post Primary. Aoife ran in the Senior race, over a distance of 2500 metres.

St.Cocas AC were quick to congratulate all their athletes on their Facebook page this evening; “Congratulations to all athletes who represented their schools today in the Leinster Cross Country Championships in Santry. A special congratulations goes to Orla Reidy who won gold in the Intermediate girls race and is now Leinster Champion. Well done also Aoife O’Cuill who ran a great race to qualify for the All Ireland finals next month.”

Minor = 1st year

Junior = 2nd year

Intermediate = 3rd&4th year

Senior = 5th&6th year

Silver for Kelly at the National Championships

Kilcock’s Kevin Kelly secured the silver medal, finishing 2nd behind Sean Tobin in the final of the 1500m at the National Championships at Santry on Sunday evening, 23rd July.

Kelly, representing St Cocas produced a superb display and lost nothing in defeat behind pre race favourite Tobin, with two-time winner Eoin Everard back in 3rd.

Meanwhile in the women’s 1500m final, Kelly’s St Cocas’ team mate Rachel Smyth also ran an excellent race, just missing out on a medal in 4th place. 

A good evening for St Cocas was capped off when the club were presented with €1000 by Irish Health Life.
