Kilcock Ladies end their hunt for new manager with appointment of Carlow native.

Kilcock Ladies have appointed Carlow man Stephen Hunter as their new senior football manager for the 2019 season.

Hunter collects a Senior league cup on behalf of his Kilcock team mates.

Hunter, who was a member of the men’s senior football panel in the club from the start of the century until a couple of years ago, takes over from the outgoing Shane Smullen and will be joined on the sideline by Val herbert, Pat O’Connor and Louise Keane.

The former Carlow panelist, also spent a number of the last few years training an underage team in Kilcock, one that his son was and continues to be a prominent part of. In addition to that Hunter has previous coaching experience in the LGFA from his time involved with Leixlip. Kilcock LGFA are thought to be delighted to get their man but are also sad that Shane Smullen had to step down due to work committments. A spokesperson for the club thanked Shane for his time, effort and dedication during his year in charge.

According to sources, Hunter has already met with the players along with his management team and plans are afoot to tackle the 2019 season head on. One thing is for sure if he puts half as much effort into his managerial career as he did on the pitch, then Kilcock LGFA will have no room for excuses come the years end.

Thompson calls time on his role as Kilcock Celtic Chairperson

Kilcock Celtic Chairperson Shane Thompson has revealed his plans to step down from his position at the club’s upcoming AGM.

Thompson made the announcement on the club’s Faebook page over the weekend, where he also announced that he will be taking a break from his role in coaching at the club. “I will be stepping down as chairperson of the club and I will also be taking a break from coaching. After a trying year personally I made the decision to take the break”

The 2017 joint manager of the successful u16 shield winning team went on to thank a number of people at the club who helped him during his term as chairperson. “I would like to thank all committee members, both past and present, who made my tender as chair an enjoyable one of which has given me plenty of life experiences both good and bad. Also thanks to all the coaches for their time, patience and dedication, for without you the kids wouldn’t have football. Thank you to the many parents/supporters and sponsors for all the help and support”

First off Thompson is a football fan and with a bit more spare time now, the Highfield resident revealed that he still plans to attend as many games up at The Bawnouge as possible. He may have no choice if he gets under his wife Angela’ feet; “I’m sure I’ll be spotted at many a game as a supporter. Also thanks to my wife, who I abandoned on many a weekend. I’m going to be under your feet more often now”

The outgoing Chairperson went on to wish the club all the best in the future; “Best of luck to all the teams for the coming season.. Once again thank you all. Shane Thompson”

Shane Thompson – Kilcock Celtic:

•Years Chairman 2014-2019

•Coached 2001/02 group of players from u8 right up to under 17, winning 1st of two shields at under 15 in the 16/17 season and the second shield and league (the double) at under 16 in the 2017 season.

• Part of the coaching set of the club’s senior team for the 2nd half of the season as they won the Division 1/2/3 shield in the second half of 2017.

Talking privately to Shane Thompson, it was clear to see he will be a massive loss to the club, given his raw passion for them. But everyone needs a break and he owes the club nothing. No doubt he will be back involved in the future. Thompson gave a special mention to Dave Reilly, John Hill and Brendan Rooney who he coached with over the years.

His legacy as Chairperson, aside from his obvious development of youth at the club, will be how he pushed for pitch development and an improvement in the overall quality of facilities such as the gym, astro and dugouts at clubhouse.

Best of luck Shane from Robert at ExtraTimeSportLive.com and thank you for all your cooperation during your time at the helm. Whoever takes your place has big boots to fill.
