By Robert Cox January 21st, 2021

Kilcock and Enfield will be represented on the Longford Town first team squad for 2021 as the Midlanders continue to prepare for life in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.

Striker Callum Warfield from Kilcock and former Enfield Celtic underage star Thomas McLaughlin were yesterday named on manager Daire Doyle’s updated squad list.

McLaughlin, a talented midfielder, has been added from the u19s along with Ben Lynch, while Warfield was part of the 2020 promotion winning side that eventually went up following a famous play-off victory over Shelbourne in Inchicore.

O’Sullivan Scores In Wexford Rout

Kilcock man Patrick O’Sullivan found the back of the net in his side Wexford FC’s 5-1 victory away to Cabinteely on Friday night.

O’Sullivan, who replaced Jack Larkin on the 84th minute, put the icing on the cake two minutes later for the men from the South East with a composed finish as they picked up a bady needed win, in what must surely go down as one of the most surprising results of the season.

The former Longford Town under-19 player and current Maynooth University student fired into the top corner of the net to seal the victory for the visitors after Charlie Smith teed it up for him with a pass from just outside the penalty area.

The result now sees Wexford move off the bottom of the table, while Cabinteely could drop out of the play off position should UCD defeat Shamrock Rovers second string on Saturday.

Kilduff nominated for June player of the month

Kilcock’s Shelbourne FC striker Ciarán Kilduff has been nominated for the SWAI and SSE Airtricity League player of the month award following some fine performances and crucial goals for the Tolka Park side in June.

Kilduff, who is the sole representative from the first division, is there on merit following goals in important games against Drogheda United and Limerick FC, as The Reds won all three games during the month, extending their winning run to seven in a row in the process.

The former Dundalk striker has also been a pivotal target man, bringing more than just his finishing prowess to Ian Morris’ league leading side. His work rate up top is immense, winning and holding up the ball on almost every attack. A perfect fit for Shelbourne as they continue their push for promotion.

The six-man shortlist for June’s SWAI Player of the Month is as follows: Danny Mandroiu (Bohemians), Sean Gannon (Dundalk) ,John Mountney (Dundalk), Ciaran Kelly (St Patrick’s Athletic), Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe (Derry City) and Ciaran Kilduff (Shelbourne).

Kilcock’s League of Ireland numbers continue to grow

The people of Kilcock will have plenty of reasons to take interest in the upcoming 2019 League of Ireland First Division season with four lads from the town now signed up to three of the clubs involved.

The latest of these is Laragh’s very own Patrick O’Sullivan who has put pen to paper on a deal with the Longford Town senior squad for 2019. O’Sullivan joins Neale Fenn’s team from the clubs Academy.

A spokesperson from the Midlanders Academy congratulated the 6th year Scoil Dara Kilcock student on their Facebook page last night; “We would like to congratulate Patrick O’Sullivan for signing for our senior squad this season. Patrick played with our U17s during the 2017 season and last season played with our 19s. From all the coaches at the Academy we want to wish him and the lads all the best in the coming Season”

O’Sullivan will come up against some very familiar faces over the course of the season with Ciaran Kilduff now at Shelbourne and Aaron Brilly and Nathan Doyle both at Athlone Town. * ‘El Classico’ is certainly one game yours truly will be attending this season!

O’Sullivan is also a very talented Gaa player and has represented Kilcock at all ages with aplomb. First and foremost though he is yet another graduate of the excellent Kilcock Celtic Academy. Fair play to the club on all the talent they have produced and continue to produce up at The Bawnouge.

Longford Town win inaugural O’Connor Cup

Longford Town u19s took home the inaugural Frank O’Connor Cup with an 8-4 victory over Kilcock Celtic in testing weather conditions on the Maynooth University astro turf pitch on Sunday afternoon.

The game, which was originally postponed in January due to an unplayable Kilcock Celtic pitch, produced some fantastic attacking football from both teams in the first half, with Longford edging it 4-3 at the break.

Both sides made a raft of changes in personel at half time, before emptying their benches throughout the second half as the two teams continue their pre season preperations for their respective league campaigns.

It was the League of Ireland outfit who used their experience competing at a higher level, to capitalise in the second half to come away winners on a full time score of 8-4.

Kilcock Celtic Chairman Shane Thompson spoke after the game; “Thanks again to all at Longford Town. Hopefully we can build on our friendship in the coming years. A special thanks to the O’connor family for sponsoring the cup and cheers to everyone who turned up despite the baltic conditions, to support both teams. Thanks to Longford Town u19s who fielded their strongest available team in honour of the late Frank O’Connor.”

Former Kilcock Celtic pair Patrick O’Sullivan and Josh Sherlock were involved for Longford Town.

Sun, Feb 11th 2018

Athlone Town AFC manager Aaron Callaghan has added Meath man Aaron Williams to his squad ahead of the 2018 League of Ireland season.

Williams, who is from Summerhill and previously played for the local team Parkceltic Summerhill FC, was on the scoresheet in Athlone’s pre-season friendly with Shamrock Rovers last week, a game that finished in a 3-3 draw.

He joins fellow Aaron, Aaron Brilly from neighbouring town Kilcock at the midlanders as they look to compete in the top half of the first division table over the coming months.

Both men attended Scoil Dara Kilcock, a school that has produced several League of Ireland players including Shane Barrett, Ciaran Kilduff and Shane Fitzgerald.

Keep an eye out on all my social media platforms over the coming months to follow the pairs fortunes.
