Blackhall Gaels suffered another home defeat in Division 2 of the Meath SFL when they lost out to Rathkenny on a full time score of 1-18 to 2-10 in Kilcloon. Two second half goals from Alan Nestor helped the hosts come from nine points down at half time to level proceedings going into the final five minutes but Rathkenny kicked on again to win by five. Nestor top scored for Blackhall with 2-5. The loss leaves Liam Keane’s men with only two points from a possible ten and they will need to start picking up some wins soon to avoid dropping down to Division 3.

This morning it’s the turn of the second team as they welcome Navan O’Mahoneys to Kilcloon in Division 2 of the B League.

Blackhall Gaels senior ladies game against neighbours Moynalvey, scheduled for Saturday evening, was postponed due to an unplayable pitch.

In Kildare, Kilcock travelled to Athy for round 2 of the Aldridge Cup on Saturday evening. Kilcock put in another decent performance against senior championship opposition (they lost to Naas in round 1) but still came up short on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-10.

Brilly signs for Athlone Town

Aaron Brilly in action for Athlone Town FC during his first spell with the club in 2017.

Kilcock’s Aaron Brilly has re-signed for League of Ireland first division side Athlone Town ahead of the forthcoming 2018 season.

Brilly, who left the midlanders halfway through last season for Home Farm FC, following some problems within the club, rejoins a club that are hoping for an upturn in fortunes under new manager Aaron Callaghan.

The club have been putting together a panel of players behind the scenes over the past number of weeks, with the full identity of the squad only to be released tonight.

Brilly has previously played in the League of Ireland with Longford Town and Cabinteely, as well as enjoying a spell with Newry City, so he brings with him experience beyond his years to Callaghan’s new side.

Athlone have recently played Ashbourne, Lucan United and Shamrock Rovers in pre season games, games Brilly is believed to have been involved in.

Kilcock pair sign for Longford Town

Kilcock teenage duo Josh Fogarty and Darragh Confrey have signed for the Longford Town u17s for the upcoming 2018 season.

The former Kilcock Celtic youth players both put pen to paper alongside their new manager James Dermody on Sunday afternoon.

Kilcock Celtic have a proud record of producing talented players that have come up through their ranks with Ciaran Kilduff, Aaorn Brilly and Shane Fitzgerald all donning the green and white hoops at some stage in their younger years, with Fizgerald currently back at his hometown club after stints at Galway United and UCD.

Today’s double signing brings to eleven the number of Celtic players who have moved on to Longford Town at u17 and u19 level.

Brilly Scores In Season Opening Win

Aaron Brilly leaves the field after his sides win over TEK United.

Home Farm FC got their Leinster Senior League campaign up and running with a 4-2 victory at home to TEK United on Friday night, August 18th.

Kilcock man Aaron Brilly was on the score sheet with the hosts first, a header to equalise the game at 1-1 before half time.

Home Farm ran out 4-2 winners as they continued their unbeaten start to the season, which has seen them go all the way to the final of the Clements Cup, a game still to be played.
