Kildare SFL Div 4:
Cappagh 4-11 Kildangan 0-5
By Robert Cox
Cappagh Gaa Club’s adult mens footballers got their Centenary Year celebrations off to a winning start with victory in round one of the 2017 Division 4 League at home to Kildangan on Tuesday night, March 28th.
Sporting their new jerseys, specially designed to mark the 100 year anniversary, the men in red & white (and a bit of blue) dominated proceedings throughout and lead 2-6 to 0-4 at the break in front of a large home support.
Second half goals from Chris Murray and Eoin Leonard added an extra gloss to the scoreboard along with points from Dean Brennan, Thomas Jackman and the aforementioned Leonard but it was the overall signs of team spirit and general team performance that will delight management the most, along with their sides hard work in tracking back and support of the man in possession.
Cappagh ran out easy 18 point winners in the end, with Brian Kelly and Caoimh McAuley making their debuts. They were also delighted to welcome back Aaron Maher and Geoff Flanagan to the fold.
Cappagh would like to thank their main sponsor Joe Mallon Motors of Naas and Portlaoise for their continued support and are delighted to have them on this special centenary jersey.
Speaking to a club rep after Tuesday’s victory they said; “The very first Cappagh jersey 100 years ago was blue with a white sash so for our centenary we have incorporated a spot of blue into our now traditional Cappagh Red & White hoops. Our new goalkeeper jersey is based on the original”.
