Scoil Dara, Kilcock suffered a heavy defeat against a strong Dunshaughlin CC side in the Ladies North Leinster u-16 semi final at a windswept Dunshaughlin GAA on Tuesday 16th of April. The hosts flew out of the traps in an effort to build up a sizeable lead while playing with the elements and had the ball in the Scoil Dara net on three occasions inside the opening ten minutes. While Kilcock, who went into the tie short a few first team regulars due to injury, had to face into a gale force wind in the opening period and subsequently found themselves eleven points down before full forward Sarah Scully pointed from a free on twelve minutes. A Lorna Murray point from play was the only other solitary score for the North Kildare side in the first half as they struggled to contain a rampant Meath side, who added a goal and ten points without reply.

Half Time Score: Dunshaughlin CC 4:12  Scoil Dara Kilcock 0:02

Any hopes of a second half revival playing with the wind were quickly diminished when Dunshaughlin took off from where they left with four unanswered points. Wing forward Murray completed her brace of points for Kilcock with a fine effort over her head on 47mins while Scully finished a fine solo effort to the back of the net to put some respectability on the scoreboard on 49mins. Dunshaughlin didn’t let up though as they hit three more goals before the end in between some fine points to progress to the North Leinster final. Scoil Dara were totally outclassed on the day but never gave up. On a day when the defence received a torrid time, Katie Little and Emily Davis won their fair share of the ball, while Emma Maguire worked tirelessly in midfield throughout. Upfront Lorna Murray threatened at times from the wing and kicked two fine points while Sarah Scully took her scores well when the chances came her way. Kilcock can have no complaints on the day and can be proud of their efforts in reaching the semi-final. One feels they have just been beaten by the champions elect.
