A stepping stone for Kilcock Ladies…

The 2010 crop of Kilcock minor ladies travel to Milltown tommorow 12th of march to contest an eagerly awaited minor b final against Athy, a club they defeated two years ago to take the minor d championship. This is another rung on the ladder for a club that has put so much work into their under age system over the last 7-8 years, thanks mainly in part to a group of girls based on the senior team and win lose or draw they are beginning to bear the fruits of their labour. The girls are managed by the men’s senior goalie Shane Stone, who when interviewed during the week over a light lunch in Kilcock’s Streetside Cafe over looking the town’s scenic canal, was under no illusions of the task ahead.”Athy are a strong outfit, they still possess the bulk of their 2008 side and beat us late last year in the group stages, but their cause was aided by some lucky goals and some rather strange refereeing decisions, but you’ll get that and we know if we turn up with the right attitude on the day we’ll be more than capable of beating them and we have some of the best girls in the county at this age”.It is easy to see how Stone has guided his troops this far, a calm, cool and confident man which has surely rubbed off on his team.He was quick to point out however that it was not all down to him and took time to thank his assisstant Sheena Byrne and others such as Robert Cox, Linda Byrne, Seamus Kane and David Hynes and of course all-rounder Breda Byrne or ”lil b” as he reffered to her as.So with players of the calibare of Emily Milner,Grace White,Ashling O’Connor and Caoimhe Fagan to name but a few lets hope captain Emma Robinson can bring the trophy back to north Kildare come saturday evening!!
